FLORENCE, South Carolina -- The Lake Erie baseball team continued their stretch of road games at Francis Marion University, taking on the Patriots for a single nine inning game. The Storm was able to score five runs in the eighth inning to combat the Patriots' hitting, but six runs for Francis Marion gve them the 10-6 win. The Storm now reside at a 1-13 record.
The first run for the Storm was in the fifth inning, after freshman
Zimba Cadiz singled down third base to send sophomore
Israel Espinosa home for an RBI. Trailing 1-4 going into the eighth, the Storm put up a strong fight against the Patriots. Sophomore
Graham Solak singled to left center, giving junior Mark Ross the green light for home. Junior
Josue Cruz hit another single for the Storm, which was enough to send junior
Justin Major home. Shortly after, freshman
Hagan Hejduk grounded out to third which allowed Solak to score, making it a tied 4-4 game. The Storm continued their scoring run with another hit from Cadiz, sending both Cruz and junior
Jacob Mote home for two RBIs. The Storm took a 6-4 lead, but the Patriots responded with five runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth to take the game.
Sophomore
Robert Helt was the Storm's starting pitcher for the night. Freshman
Landen Vance led in strikeouts for Storm pitching, throwing two.
Lake Erie baseball takes a short break before returning to action on Tuesday, March 14th for a single game on the road against the Kent State Golden Flashes at 3:00 PM.
