KENT, Ohio – The Lake Erie College baseball team traveled to Kent, Ohio today to take on the Kent State University Golden Flashes. The Storm held up fairly well in the matchup but fell in the end, 7-0.
Robert Helt got the start on the mound for the Storm and was the first of seven pitchers used by head coach Landon Hutchison in the contest. Helt pitched a scoreless inning before being relieved by Brendan Collins in the second inning. Collins would put in two innings of work and also keep the Golden Flashes scoreless, keeping the game tied 0-0 through three.
In the bottom of the fourth, Kent State would score on a bases load walk and then again on a fielder's choice and giving them the edge, 2-0.
Lake Erie would earn their first hit of the game on a Helt double in the fifth but the Storm offense would stay quiet the remainder of the game and the Golden Flashes would end up on top 7-0 by the final out.
Helt finished the day going 2-3 at the plate while pitching one inning, surrendering no hits, and walking two.
The Storm now end their tough early season schedule and sit at 1-14. They will begin conference play on Saturday, March 18th as the home team as they travel to Kentucky Wesleyan for a four-game series.
