LEESBURG, Flo. – The Lake Erie College softball team continued their competition in THE Spring Games today, March 7th against the College of Staten Island Dolphins and the Lynn University Fighting Knights. They would drop both contests on the day, falling 5-1 and 1-0.
GAME 1 - vs Staten Island
After the offense came alive yesterday, Lake Erie struggled to get things going in today's first contest. They put together just four hits in the first six innings of play while the Dolphins gathered 10 hits themselves and broke open the game in the fourth with a five-run inning.
The Storm offense came alive in the final inning however when sophomore Emma Morris kicked off the top half with a standing triple which lit a spark in the dugout.
Jordyn Long drove in Lake Erie's first run of the game the next at-bat with a single. Two batters later, sophomore Arianna Tammaro gave the Storm another single but Long would be thrown out trying to slide into third, bringing Lake Erie down to their final out with one on base.
Senior Dani Soria singled next, moving Tammaro to second and CJ Garcia advanced both runners with a single of her own, loading the bases and bringing up the tying run in Ava Scott.
Unfortunately, Scott would pop up to end the game and the Storm would fall 5-1.
Both Garcia and freshman Lillian Campbell would finish with two hits while starting pitcher Emma Spahr would allow no runs in three innings of work.
GAME 2 - vs Lynn
Lake Erie struggled heavily again on offense in their second matchup of the day. They only managed to get two hits and failed to give run support to starting pitcher Grace Hammer who pitched all seven innings and only surrendered one run and struck out six.
The Storm will hope to put their offensive struggles behind them when they return to action on Thursday March 9 against West Virginia Wesleyan College and Millersville University.
