Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Take Both Games on Day 2 of THE Spring Games

LEESBURG, Flo. -- The Lake Erie College softball team resumed play in the 2023 THE Spring Games today March 6th, by facing the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights and the Edinboro University Fighting Scots. After dropping their opening two contests yesterday the Storm bounced back by taking both games today by a score of 3-1 and 3-0.

GAME 1 - vs College of Saint Rose

Coming off the sting from their opening losses the day before, the Storm came into today's contest looking to redeem themselves.

They would set the tone early by being the first to strike when freshman Lillian Campbell hit a two out single in the first and hustled her way home the next at bat after Ava Scott smoked a pitch into the outfield for an RBI double.

The Golden Knights would earn that run back in the top half of the next inning though after putting together a triple and an RBI single. Lake Erie wouldn't let the tie last long though as Ava Scott would come up clutch again, this time in the bottom of the third and driving home sophomore Maddie Pawlak, giving the Storm a 2-1 lead.

Lake Erie would score once more in the bottom of the fifth after loading the bases and scoring on an error by Saint Rose, stretching out their lead to 3-1 which they would ride until the final out.

Junior Bridget Mullholand was the winning pitcher of record after throwing five fantastic innings, surrendering just four hits and one earned run while striking out four. Carly Rowland came in for the final two innings and earned her first career save while giving up no hits and striking out three.

GAME 2 - vs Edinboro University

The team was buzzing after their 3-1 win against the Golden Knights and they looked to complete their sweep of the day against Edinboro University.

Grace Hammer got the start for the game and she would pitch a masterpiece. Hammer would go all seven innings, surrendering just four hits and striking out 14 Fighting Scots along the way.

It would be until the fifth inning before either team was able to score, but the Storm made sure they were the first to do so. Dani Soria reached on a fielding error by the Edinboro third baseman which scored Bridget Mullholand who started this game as the starting left fielder. Next at-bat, sophomore Arianna Tammaro drove in Soria, giving Lake Erie a much needed cushion for Hammer to work with.

Hammer struck out two in the bottom of the fifth and in the top of the sixth sophomore CJ Garcia kicked off the inning with a single to left, followed soon after by a loud RBI double courtesy of Jasmine Gonzales. This would be her second hit of the day and helped secure a 3-0 victory for the Storm.

Lake Erie will be back in Leesburg tomorrow March 7th to face the College of Staten Island and Lynn University with the contests set to start at 12:30 PM and 3 PM.
