MENTOR, Ohio — The Lake Erie softball team was back at Mentor High School to host the Northwood Timberwolves for another conference doubleheader. The Storm was unable to best the Timberwolves in the first game, but came back in the second game to take a 3-0 conference victory. Lake Erie now has a 1-3 conference record and are 6-13 overall.
GAME 1
The first four innings were scoreless for both teams. The Timberwolves would take over in the fifth inning, scoring eight runs. The Storm tried to fight back in the bottom of the fifth with a hit from freshman Peyton Powers, but was thrown out at home to end the game, 8-0. Powers finished with two hits for the first game.
Senior Carly Rowland started off on the mound for the Storm, throwing five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Junior Bridget Mullholand took over at the end for part of the fifth inning.
GAME 2
The second game started off with a Storm home run from freshman Lillian Campbell to take an early 1-0 lead. This is Campbell's first career home run as a freshman. The next four innings were scoreless for both teams, until the Storm scored two runs in the sixth. Senior Dani Soria doubled to right center to send Jordyn Long home, followed by a single from sophomore CJ Garcia to bring sophomore Arianna Tammaro home for the Storm's third run. The Timberwolves were unable to score in the seventh, giving the Storm the 3-0 win, along with their first conference win.
Senior Grace Hammer was back on the mound for the Storm, recording an impressive 11 strikeouts in the seven innings she pitched. This marks Hammer's fourth win of the season.
The Storm head to Walsh University to face the Cavaliers for a conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 28th starting at 2:00 PM.
