CLERMONT, Flo. – The Lake Erie College softball team competed in their final day of THE Spring Games, March 10 against The Felician University Golden Falcons and the College of Saint Rose Golden Knights. The Storm would split the series on the day and conclude their road trip with a 2-0 win over Saint Rose
GAME 1 - vs Felician
The Storm bats finally showed signs of life in this game after showing signs of improvement in yesterday's final contest.
Lake Erie struck first in the top of the second when freshman Peyton Powers kicked off the inning with a single and was pinch-ran for by junior Jordyn Hawkins. Emma Morris would smack a double in the gap and Hawkins would power around the bases to score and give the Storm an early 1-0 lead.
Both teams remained relatively quiet for the next three innings and in the top of the sixth Adrianna Sluga singled and Emma Spahr followed it up by crushing a ball over the left-centerfield fence for her first career home run, giving the Storm a 3-0 lead with time running out for the Golden Falcons.
Felician would start to rally in the bottom half of the inning, however. Between hits and Storm defensive miscues, the Golden Falcons would erupt for a four-run inning and take the lead.
Lake Erie would go down 1-2-3 in the top half of the seventh and fall 4-3.
Seven different batters would record a hit for the Storm in the game, giving them one of their most well-rounded games of the season.
GAME 2 - vs College of Saint Rose
Coming off the sting of their late-inning collapse, Lake Erie suited up for their final game of THE Spring Games against a familiar opponent in the College of Saint Rose.
The Storm wasted no time getting the bats going to start this game. In the bottom of the first, after a 1-2-3 by starting pitcher Grace Hammer, Arianna Tammaro led off with a walk and the next batter, Dani Soria, earned herself a single. Both runners would advance on a wild pitch and Lillian Campbell would draw a walk in her at-bat loading the bases for the Storm. Two batters later, catcher Jasmine Gonzales would single, knocking in Tammaro and Soria, giving the Storm an early 2-0 lead.
Lake Erie would threaten to score a few more times in the contest but nothing would come to fruition. Hammer would go all seven innings in another fantastic start and surrender no runs while giving up just three hits and striking out 11.
With the conclusion of THE Spring Games, the Storm now sit at 5-9 and will return to action on Sunday, March 19 on the road against Mercyhurst University before starting conference play on March 25 against Cedarville.
