ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Lake Erie College men's basketball team traveled to Ashland, Ohio for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference Quarterfinals matchup against the Ashland University Eagles. The Storm were unable to hang with the Eagles for most of the game and fell in the contest, 81-69.
Lake Erie never managed to grab the lead after taking a quick 3-2 lead to start the game. The Eagles shot lights out, out shooting the Storm 55.6% from the field and 45.8% from deep compared to Lake Erie's 36.2% and 25%.
In the second half, the Storm would go down by as much as 20 points but. manage to claw their way back to just a four point deficit. Ultimately, the Eagles would go in a 15-2 run the rest of the way and hang Lake Erie the loss.
Despite recording an impressive 10 steals on the night, it was not enough as Ashland continued to make their shots when they had the opportunity.
Jacob Plantz would lead the Storm in scoring with 17 points in the season finale while
Jordan Burge would score 11 on 5-of-9 shooting from the field.
The loss ends Lake Erie's season with a final record of 14-14 and 11-9 in conference play. It was one of the more impressive men's basketball seasons in recent years as they made the conference tournament for the first time since the 2019-20 season and beat an undefeated and #4 ranked Hillsdale team at home in the beginning half of the season.
