Men's Soccer Advances to G-MAC Semifinals With Victory Over Cedarville

PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie men's soccer team kicked off the 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament today with a quarterfinals matchup against the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. After tying the previous two matchups, the Lake Erie finally edged out Cedarville when it mattered most, winning the game by a score of 2-0 and advancing to the G-MAC semifinals.

The Storm controlled the ball for most of the first half but Cedarville made their possessions count, getting off 5 shots despite the limited time of possession.

Lake Erie came out of the locker room looking like a new team, playing more aggressive and looking to take the game into their own hands.

In just the 51st minute, Fabian Kiessetz scored on a header with an assist by Maximilian Lintschinger

Around the 71st minute of play, Lake Erie's aggressive play would start to show. Aaron Garrote would be assessed a yellow card and Biel Font would follow suite in the 72nd minute with a yellow of his own.

In the 75th minute, Angel Murillo lined up for a free kick and placed a ball right to Biel Font who knocked it into the back of the net with a sharp header.

The Yellow Jackets were unable to catch up and the Storm would come away with a 2-0 victory.

With the win Lake Erie advances to the G-MAC semifinals in Tiffin, Ohio and will face the Thomas More Saints on Thursday, November 9th at 10:30 a.m.
