PAINESVILLE, Ohio — The Lake Erie Men's basketball team was back in action on Tuesday, November 14, for another non conference home match against the Clarion University Golden Eagles. Lake Erie notches their first win of the season by a score of 75-59. They move to 1-2 on the season.
Lake Erie's tough defense tonight gave them the advantage holding the Golden Eagles to a 21 for 53 shooting stint. Clarion connected on only six three point shots for the entire contest and also went a low 57% from the foul line. The Storm were able to force Clarion into 18 turnovers creating 18 points for Lake Erie. They also added 10 steals and three blocks as a team.
The Storm shot an impressive 29 for 63 from the floor at 46%, and 68% from the stripe. Their three point shooting needs improving at a 23% mark tonight on 26 attempts. Lake Erie as a team out rebounded the Golden Eagles 43 to 29 and led the entire contest. The Storm had a huge positive differential for points in the paint outscoring Clarion 46-28 in that regard.
Lake Erie was once again led by Jonny Manning posting a double-double on the night, his second straight and second of the season. Manning would end the game with a team high in points, rebounds, and assists. Doing it all for the Storm, Manning had 18 points, 11 boards, four assists, and two steals in just 26 minutes of action. He is averaging 19 points and 9.3 rebounds in the first three games of the season.
Jacob Plantz had an efficient night shooting going 8 for 13 for 17 points for the Storm. He also added a rebound and an assist. Jake Leibacher contributed 12 points, four rebounds, a team high of three steals, one block, and two assists; a defensive catalyst for the Storm. Jordan Burton also had 12 points, three rebounds, two assists, and one steal in 11 minutes off the bench for Lake Erie.
Lake Erie is back in action for another home, non conference matchup as they take on the Utah Tech University Trailblazers this Saturday, November 18. Tip off is at 2 PM.
