CRESTVIEW HILLS, Kentucky — The Lake Erie women's volleyball team traveled to Thomas More to face the Saints for their last game of the regular season. Lake Erie was unable to take a set from Thomas More, falling in three. The Storm finish their 2023 season with a 3-16 conference record and a 4-26 overall record.
Each of the three sets were close. The Saints were able to take all three off of several split up runs throughout the set. Leaders for the Storm's offense include senior captain Dora Olah, who reached her 1000 career kill in the final match with 10 kills, senior Schylar Shepherd with five, and freshman Ni'yah Fuggs with four. Junior captain Simone Schurr finished with 15 assists, and will finish the season with 1750 career assists. Junior Sarah Leyden finished with seven assists to bring her career record to 549 assists. Junior libero Brooklyn Broadway finished with a season high of 25 digs to make her career digs a total of 631.
To wrap up the 2023 season, the leaders of the Storm offense include Olah, senior Alexandra Matthews with 165 kills, senior Katelyn McMoore with 115 kills, sophomore Jessica Ickes with 93 kills, and Fuggs with 90 kills for her first collegiate season.
Olah finished the year with 189 digs behind Broadway, followed by senior Alana Stevens with 125 digs and Schurr with 116 digs. Ickes finished the season with 22 solo blocks and Matthews with 16 solo blocks.
Lake Erie commemorates the team for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2023 season.
