Women's Soccer Concludes 2023 Season With Back-to-Back Wins

PAINESVILLE, Ohio –  The Lake Erie women's soccer team competed in their last Great Midwest match against the Ursuline College Arrows, completing the 2023 season. The competitive match ended in a 2-1 win for the Storm after a late goal. This is the Storm's second consecutive G-MAC win and finalizes their record at 3-14-1 (2-12 G-MAC). 

The Storms offense got off to a strong start as they were able to get multiple shots off in the first 20 minutes. In the 20th minute, the Storm struck first when freshman Taylor Hartman found the net for her first career goal on an assist from Leonie Witt. The Storms defense performed well in the half as the Arrows were unable to get any shots off. 

The second half started off quiet until the 73rd minute, when the Arrows only shot of the game resulted in a goal.

Tied at 1-1, the Storm answered back with multiple shots, and in the 77th minute, sophomore Leonie Witt scored to give the Storm the lead. The Storms defense held the Arrows for the remaining time to close out the 2-1 win.


Team Leaders

Vanmeter led the Storm this season in defense, recording 86 saves in the net. 

The Storm offense was led by Leonie Witt with two goals and two assists. She also led the team with shots on goal with 12. 

The future looks bright for the Storm, as freshman Taylor Hartman, Florida Blake, Toni Franovic, and Emily Ngo all had goals on the season.


Coaching

Head Coach Becks Young finishes her first season at Lake Erie with three collegiate wins, assisted by Melissa Fernandez who finishes her first year as well with the Storm as an assistant coach and who Scott Wilson concludes his second year.
