Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Storm men's soccer team traveled to Seton Hill University to take on and beat the Griffins, 6-2. The Storm now have a 1-1-1 record, and the Griffins fall to a 0-3-0 record.
The Storm came into the first period strong with an early shot from sophomore Teddy Baker at 1:41. The Griffins were able to save the shot, but the Storm kept the momentum going with a goal at 10:21 from senior Tom Akinola, assisted by senior Gio Monteiro Da Costa and freshman Simon Wollesen. This is Akinola's first goal of the season, giving the Storm an early lead of 1-0. Akinola kept it going with another shot at 14:14, which was saved. Baker shot again and made his first goal of the season at 15:12, assisted by Gio Da Costa, bringing the score to 2-0. The Griffins responded with a goal of their own at 17:04 to make the score 2-1. Wollesen took a shot of his own at 21:05, but missed high. Sophomore goalie Tomas Wroblewski made his first save of the day at 27:09. Both teams drew some fouls before sophomore Marcus Somohano took a shot, but the Griffin's goalie saved it to end the period.
The Griffins fought back to start the second period, with a blocked shot. Soon after, they scored at 46:03 to tie up the game at 2-2. Their goal did not phase the Storm, with another shot from Wollesen at 50:57, which was saved. The Griffins combated with two shots of their own, but could not stop Akinola who scored his second goal of the game at 61:14 to give the Storm the lead, 3-2. Baker took a high shot before sophomore Connor Mautino scored a header goal at 72:12, assisted by Baker. The Storm held the force with another goal at 82:57 from freshman Mathi Ott, making it his first of the season. With a 5-2 lead, the Storm continued their reign with another goal at 86:55 by senior Alex Ovalle, assisted by Ott. The Griffins could not fight back, as the period ended giving the Storm a 6-2 win.
The Storm look to keep their winning mentality at home on Thursday, September 8th at 7:00 PM for their first conference game against Ohio Dominican.
