Box Score CALIFORNIA, PA -- The Storm took on the Frsotburg State Bobcats for their final match of the PennWest-California Invitational. The Storm started off with a 12-1 deficit, yet came back and won the first set, 25-20 against the Bobcats. The Bobcats took the next three sets, 25-15, 25-14, and 25-14. Storm senior outside Kariema Rodriguez-Diaz recorded 11 kills.
The Bobcats started off the match with kills, service aces, and Storm errors to secure a 12-1 lead. It was difficult for the Storm, but an attack error by the Huskies' sparked a six point run to bring the Storm back at 13-8, Bobcats. A pair of kills from junior middle/outside Alexandra Matthews in addition to an error from the Bobcats brought the Storm up to 14-11 Bobcats. The set went back to back and forth scoring for each team, until the Storm took the lead from an eight point run with senior DS/L Kaylee Hiser from the service line to bring the score to 23-18. A kill from the Bobcats could not compete with kills from Storm's junior middle Katelyn McMoore and junior middle Julianna Krebasch, giving the Storm the win at 25-20.
The next set started off strong for both teams at a 3-3 tie, before the Bobcats went on a seven point run over the Storm. Storm's McMoore, Matthews, and freshman middle Jessica Ikes responded with split kills to tighten the score to 14-9, Bobcats. A kill from Rodriguez-Diaz was answered by several kills from the Bobcats, giving them another large lead of 24-15. A service ace from the Bobcats gave them the set win of 25-15.
The third set, similar to the second, started in a 5-5 tie. The Bobcats went on a six point run to give them a lead of 10-5. The Storm countered with split kills from Rodriguez-Diaz and senior outside Jordan Taylor, but could not best the service aces and kills from the Bobcats, taking another lead of 19-11. A kill from Ickes mixed with two Bobcat errors helped the Storm, but the Bobcats continued to go on runs that gave them the winning lead of 25-14.
The Bobcats used their winning momentum to put down more kills in the fourth set, giving them a lead of 7-3. A short and sweet three point run from LEC put them back into action, with a kill from McMoore and some Bobcat errors, bringing the score to 8-6 Bobcats. The Bobcats responded with a five point run to further the lead at 13-7. A pair of service aces from sophomore setter Simone Schurr brought the Storm back, yet the Bobcats' kills and Storms' errors resulted in the Bobcats winning the set and match, 25-25.
Despite missing multiple starters, the Storm fought hard throughout the weekend and showed their depth. The Storm will return to the court for the Lock Haven Invitational on Friday, September 2nd and Saturday, September 3rd.
