Lake Erie comeback falls short as Cedarville prevails 68-57

Box Score

As the basketball regular season enters its final month, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team looked to get back on track as they took on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets for the second time this year. In the first matchup Cedarville was able to come away with a 72-43 victory. In this matchup, the Storm were unable to avenge their previous loss and fell by a score of 68-57.

In the first quarter of the contest, both teams traded scores early as they tried to find a rhythm to the game. However, a good offensive stretch from the Yellow Jackets would push the lead to 14-7 as the first period ended.

The next quarter would feature the Storm mounting a comeback behind strong shooting from Breanna Bauer and Lauren Flannery. As the game drew even, coach Perttu's squad was able to keep their foot on the accelerator behind energetic play from CC Carey and Alexis Lehmkuhl off the bench. That would bring the game to 36-28 favoring the Storm as the game entered the halftime break.

After the half, Lake Erie would keep the pressure on the Yellow Jackets with good defensive effort from Angela Fink and Aislyn Hurst. Cedarville would respond in kind, and the game entered a defensive gridlock that saw neither team score for much of the period. Unfortunately, foul trouble would plague the Storm, and the Yellow Jackets were able to eat away at the Lake Erie lead from the foul line. Despite the Cedarville push, the Storm were able to maintain a slim 46-42 lead as the game went onto the final period.

In the final period, both teams would frantically try to gain control of the game. Cedarville would continue their comeback campaign, and they would regain the lead partway through the 4th quarter. The Storm would try to respond with a late offensive push of their own, but the aforementioned foul trouble would hinder the Lake Erie comeback efforts. Cedarville would remain on top the rest of the way to a final score of 68-57.

For the Storm. Breanna Bauer would lead the way statistically with 14 points, 5 rebounds, and an impressive 8-9 from the line. Just behind her was Lauren Flannery with 12 points.

The Lake Erie women's basketball team will return to action when Ohio Dominican Panthers come to town for a 3 pm tipoff.
