Lake Erie comes up short at Hillsdale

Box Score

HILLSDALE, Mich. --In a week jam-packed with Storm basketball on both the men's and women's sides, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team took a trip up to Michigan to take on the Hillsdale Chargers. Despite a near career scoring day from Lauren Flannery, the Chargers would prevail with a 104-71 win.

The first quarter saw both teams trade blows early as they tried to establish some rhythm to the game. The Storm actually took an initial lead due to accurate three-point shooting from Taylor Thomas. However, it would be the Chargers who held tight 28-21 as the game entered the 2nd period.

The second period saw the Storm try to keep pace with the Hillsdale offensive attack. Breanna Bauer and Lainey Billing would be pivotal to the Storm offensive output in this quarter, as they have all season for coach Perttu's squad. However, Hillsdale would maintain a 54-40 lead entering the halftime break.

The third period saw the Chargers begin to pull away from the Storm. Lainey Billing and Alexis Lehmkuhl would show some strong offensive play from the Storm, but the Chargers would hold a 75-54 lead as the game entered the final period.

The final period saw coach Perttu go to her bench to try to bring the Storm back into the game. Despite strong play from CC Carey and Abrar Ghazy in the period, Hillsdale would send the Storm home with a 104-71 loss.

Statistically, the clear highlight of the afternoon was the 20 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists from Lauren Flannery. This was just three off of her career high in points for a game. After her, it was a very recognizable story from the Storm. Breanna Bauer added 11 points and 7 rebounds to her career totals at Lake Erie, and Angela Fink would contribute 8 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds.

The Storm will enter their final road trip of the season when they head down to Owensboro, Kentucky to face off with the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers for a 7:30 pm tip on Thursday, February 24th.
