Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - After a dramatic win on Senior Day over Ohio Dominican, the Lake Erie women's basketball team looked to build some momentum and continue their winning ways as they travel to face the Findlay Oilers on the road. In their earlier matchup this season, the Storm fell by a score of 82-71. Unfortunately, they were unable to avenge that loss on Thursday night as they again fell to the Oilers 79-63.
The Storm had their work cut out for them right off the jump as Findlay jumped out to an early lead with some strong outside shooting. However, the Storm answered back with Breanna Bauer and Alexis Lehmkuhl controlling the game from the paint. However, the score would read 25-12 favoring the Oilers at the end of the first.
In the second, Lake Erie would continue their focus on the interior as Bauer and Kayla Clark would keep the Storm in the game by continuing their control of the paint. Additionally, some good defensive play from Lainey Billing and Angela Fink would keep the Storm in the game. Unfortunately, the Oilers would remain on top as the game entered the halftime break by a score of 45-29.
The third quarter saw the Storm pick up their pace and try to narrow the gap between them and the Oilers. CC Carey would run the Storm offensive attack effectively from the point guard position for much of the quarter, and Lake Erie would pull nearly bring the game within single digits. Findlay would still remain on top at the end of the quarter with a score of 59-47.
In the final period, foul trouble would again plague the Storm's comeback efforts as it has for much of the season. Despite some continued strong play from Bauer, Findlay was able to come away with the 79-63 win.
However, the stats did show some bright spots for the Storm. Breanna Bauer led the way with 21 points, just 6 off her career-high. She also had 2 rebounds, a block, and a steal in the contest. Lainey Billing would also add 13 points and 3 steals, and Lauren Flannery would contribute 10 points and 2 assists. The final key stat for the Storm was the impressive 7 blocks from Alexis Lehmkuhl.
Coach Mackenzie Perttu's squad will return to action on Saturday, February 19th as they continue their road trip when they head up to Hillsdale, Michigan to take on the Chargers for a 1 pm tip.
