Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College Storm men's basketball took on the #4 ranked Hillsdale Chargers on Saturday, December 31. The Storm would upset the Chargers 67-63 in the contest and end their perfect season in the process.
As expected, it was a very tough and physical game for the Storm. Lake Erie was able to build momentum and confidence early as Hillsdale struggled in the first half with missed easy shots. The Storm, despite struggling from the three-point line managed to keep the game tied by the end of the first half, 29-29.
As expected, Hillsdale's struggles would not last long as they came out in the second half and would shoot 53.8% from the field and 70% from beyond the arc. It was the Storm's ability to draw fouls that would give them the edge as they would make 10-13, while the chargers shot 3-6 from the line.
Both teams would battle back and forth towards the end, but it was a three-pointer from Jordan Burton with 22 seconds left that would put Lake Erie up 64-61. The Chargers would manage to get within two points but weren't able to comeback, leaving the final score at 67-63.
Kevin Peterson and Jacob Plantz would lead the team in scoring with 18 points while Plants would add seven rebounds in the contest.
The win takes the Storm's record to 7-5 on the year with a 4-2 record in conference play. They will suit up again on the road on January 5 against Trevecca Nazarene at 8:30 ET.
