Storm Drop Overtime Matchup to Cedarville

Box Score

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Lake Erie College Storm men's basketball hosted the Cedarville Yellow Jackets on December 3 in a backed Jerome T. Osborne Center. The Storm would fight hard and force overtime but fall 91-88 in the end.

It was a hard-fought physical matchup the entire evening with plenty of fouls being called. The score would be tied 14 times in the contest with lead changes occurring 24 times.

With the game tied at 73-73 with 2:55 left, the YellowJackets would hit a three to take the lead but PJ Jones would respond in the face of a fallen defender when he knocked down a three of his own tying things right back up. Cedarville would get two points back on the next possession but again, the Storm would hit a clutch three, this time by Jordan Burton with 1:12 left. Jonny Manning would get fouled on a rebound the next possession and hit one of his two free throws, putting the Storm up 80-78. With seven seconds left, Cedarville would tie things up and with Lake Erie unable to score again, the game would go to overtime.

Overtime would see the Storm go up by as much as three points but missed shots in the final minutes would lead to Cedarville taking the lead by three points with eight seconds remaining and Lake Erie would be unable to make a shot to tie things up again, giving them a heartbreaking 91-88 loss.

Manning would lead the way for the Storm again, recording 21 points and 11 rebounds, after recording a school record 18 rebounds two nights before. Leon Hughes would add 15 of his own and Jones would total 12 points on 4-5 shooting from three-point range and grab 6 rebounds.

The game takes the Storm's record to 3-4 on the season and drops them to 1-1 in conference play. They will suit up again on Thursday, December 8 at 7:30 PM on the road against the Malone Pioneers.
