Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio -- The Lake Erie Storm women's basketball team faced off against the Ohio Dominican Panthers on Saturday December 17th at home. The Storm impressed in an easy fashion, as they cruised past the inner-conference matchup Panthers by a score of 87-69.
The Storm finished the first half up at a comfortable 45-28. Lake Erie had eight team steals in the first half, with senior guard Angela Fink recording three of her own. Senior forward Abby Matalavage shot 6-7 from the field and 5-6 at the stripe to end the half with 17 points. Lake Erie would finish the half with a scorching 57.1 shooting percentage from the field and 37.5% behind the arch. The Storm also added in 10 of 13 from the foul line at 76.9%. Lake Erie would end the game going 31-59 from the field with a 52.5 shooting percentage. The Storm finished 35.7% from 3-point and 20-25 from the foul line at 80%.
The Storm ended the blowout win with four players in double digits. Lake Erie was led by the duo of Matalavage and senior guard Sydney Wyngarden. Matalavage ended with 24 points and 5 rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Wyngarden finished with 22 points, five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Taylor Thomas added 13 points and 3 rebounds. Sophomore guard Aislyn Hurst finished with 11 points and two rebounds. Angela Fink finished the contest with four steals, seven points, five assists, and seven rebounds.
The Storm will be on the road for their next game against Wheeling University at 5:30 PM, prior to a break for the rest of the 2022 year. The Storm's first game of 2023 is on the road against Trevecca Nazarene on January 5th.
