NORTH CANTON, Ohio - Lake Erie Storm Women's basketball traveled south on December 14th to take on the Walsh Cavaliers in an inner-conference matchup. After a down-to-the-wire performance, the Storm dropped a heartbreaker to the Cavaliers 78-86. This brings their record to 4-5 on the year. 

The Storm started off strong with a 26 point first quarter. This was in large part from the effort of sophomore guard Taylor Thomas who had 13 of her total 16 points in the first quarter. Thomas ended the game going 6-10 from the field, shooting 57.1% from the three point line and two rebounds. After a back-and-forth fourth quarter, the Storm found themselves tied 78-78. Unable to contain Cavaliers' Lexie Scarton's 27, the Storm would fall in a nail-biting fashion. Lake Erie had a fantastic day shooting. They ended the contest going 50% from the field, 40% from behind the arch, and 100% from the foul line.

The Storm ended the contest with five players in double digits including Thomas' 16. Lake Erie was led by senior guard Sydney Wyngarden who ended with a season high of 20 points, four steals, four rebounds, and one assist. Senior forward Abby Matalavage added in 17 points, with six rebounds after shooting 50% from the field. Sophomore guard Anna Ibos had 13 points, three steals, and three rebounds, in 26 minutes off the bench. Senior guard Angela Fink ended the game with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and one steal. Each had a crucial effort down the stretch of this close game. 

The Storm look to continue action and get things back on track at home on Saturday, December 17th at 1:00 PM, hosting the Ohio Dominican Panthers for another league matchup.
