Storm Move On Past Southern Nazarene | Face Saginaw Valley State in Next Round

Box Score

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Lake Erie College Storm men's soccer team started the 2022 NCAA DII Men's Soccer tournament by taking on the 9-seeded Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm on November 11. Lake Erie would easily take care of the Crimson Storm in the match and come away with a 4-0 victory.

It wouldn't take too long for the Storm to jump on the board as Connor Mautino would be the first to strike, just 6:22 into the match and assisted by Gio Da Costa. He would extend the Lake Erie lead about twenty minutes later, this time assisted by Marcos Somohano.

With the game feeling in control for the Storm, they would enter the second half with a 2-0 lead and after 15 minutes of play, Southern Nazarene would commit a foul in the box, setting up Teddy Baker for a penalty kick. Baker would make the shot and give Lake Erie a commanding 3-0 lead. Four minutes later, Tom Akinola would join the party, scoring his twelfth goal of the season and giving the Storm all they would need for a 4-0 victory.

The Storm now move on to the next round of the tournament where they will play Saginaw Valley State in University Center on Sunday, November 12. They also improve their record to 11-7-3.
