Box Score HILLSDALE, Michigan -- The Storm women's volleyball team traveled to Hillsdale College to take on the Chargers as they close in on their GMAC matches. The Storm fell in three sets, putting up a fight against the Chargers. The Storm move to a 2-21 record, and the Chargers rise to a 19-6 record.
The first set started off with a service ace from sophomore setter Simone Schurr. The Chargers had a quick response with a kill, followed by some Storm errors to give them a 4-1 lead. The Storm struggled to come back, as the Chargers grew their lead to 13-7. Senior Maria Blatnik put away the first kill for the Storm with senior Dora Olah shortly after recording a kill. The Chargers stayed tight and grew their lead to 24-14. Senior Jordan Taylor tried to fight back with a kill, but the Chargers took the first set 25-15.
The second set started with a three point run from the Chargers, ended by a kill from Olah. Junior Alexandra Matthews put away her first kill of the match to fight for the Storm, but the Chargers pulled ahead. Matthews put away another kill toward the end of the set to fight for the Storm, but the Chargers took the second set 25-16.
Two Charger kills started the third set, but Taylor had a response right away with a Storm kill. Taylor then recorded a service ace, before junior Katelyn McMoore went on a run to give the Storm an 8-4 lead. Kills from freshman Jessica Ickes, Blatnik, and McMoore held the Storm's lead at 15-10 going into the middle of the set. Olah, Ickes, and Taylor kept the Storm in action with more kills, but the Chargers fought back to tie it up at 22-22. The Chargers held their momentum and took the match winning set after some Storm errors, 25-22.
The Storm head to Northwood University on Saturday, October 22nd to take on the Timberwolves for another GMAC match at 4:00 PM.
