Box Score HAMMOND, Indiana – The Storm women's volleyball team competed in their first match of the Midwest Region Crossover, facing the William Jewell Cardinals. The Storm fell to the Cardinals in three sets. The Storm move to a 2-17 record, and the Cardinals to a 9-13 record.
The Storm and the Cardinals stayed competitive in the first set, finding the score at an early 7-7 tie. Senior Dora Olah, junior Alexandra Matthews, and senior Maria Blatnik started their strong offense early with several kills. The score stayed tight, before the Cardinals took the set 25-18 after going on some runs.
The Storm continued to battle, with senior Jordan Taylor putting away an early kill. The score was close in the middle of the set, but the Cardinals went on more runs to take the second set 25-18.
Up two sets, the Cardinals continued their strong offense to grow a 13-7 lead over the Storm. Taylor recorded another kill to combat, but the Cardinals kept their lead and secured a 25-13 match winning set.
Olah led the Storm in kills, putting away eight. Sophomore setter Simone Schurr finished the match with 11 assists, and sophomore Sarah Leyden with seven. Sophomore libero Brooklyn Broadway picked up 12 digs.
The Storm continue their crossover play on Saturday, October 15th to face the Truman Bulldogs at 9:00 AM and the Purdue Northwest Pride at 4:30 PM.
