Box Score In a rare midweek afternoon start, the Lake Erie men's soccer team took the field at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium for a matchup with the Pioneers of Malone University, and they came away with a strong 5-1 victory.
The Storm got off to a very quick start with the first goal by Teddy Baker that was assisted by Tomas Fernandez in the 4th minute. This was the start of a flurry of first half goals that saw Gio Montiero Da Costa (24th minute) and Tomas Fernandez (37th minute) add to the Storm's lead with unassisted goals. The Storm would enter the half with that 3-0 lead.
The second half played out much like the first. Ayden Von Essen was assisted on a goal by Parker Boyce in the 51st minute. After a Malone goal shortly thereafter, Connor Mautino would finish off the scoring by finding the back of the net in the 69th minute.
Defensively, the Storm defense benefited from strong goalkeeper play from Tom John and Austin Snowden, who added 4 saves to the scoresheet on the day.
The Storm will hit the road in their next contest as they head down to Canton to face the Walsh Cavaliers for a 5 pm kickoff on Saturday, October 2nd.
