Box Score The Lake Erie Storm football team embarked on a long trip to take on the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, and they will head back to Painesville with a 31-20 road victory.
The Storm had a rough start when the Ravens returned the opening kickoff for an early lead. However, the Storm answered back hastily when senior quarterback Gerald Gardner found all-conference receiver Nate Dantley, Jr. for a quick pass that Dantley took over 50 yards for the score on the Storm's first offensive snap.
After the hot start from Dantley and Gardner and a subsequent field goal from kicker Justin Smith, the rest of the Storm's offensive weapons kicked it into high gear. Freshman running back Devin Brown added 2 more touchdowns in the first half on the ground, and the Storm went into the break with a 24 to 13 lead.
The second half was more of the same with junior wide receiver Peyton Brown returning a kick all the way for a touchdown to put the finishing touch on the 31-20 victory over the Ravens.
Not to be outdone by their offensive counterparts, the Storm defense was able to keep the Ravens' attack bottled up by forcing 2 interceptions at the hands of defensive backs DJ Taylor and Cameren Grodhaus. On the line, defensive lineman Micheal Cox led the way with all 4 of the Storm's sacks on the day. Defensive backs Kerry Debose, Jr. and Taylor lead the Storm in tackles with 7 tackles apiece.
The Storm looks to lengthen their current winning streak next week when they head to Lebanon, Illinois when they face the Bearcats of McKendree University on Saturday, September 18th at 1 pm.
