Box Score (PAINESVILLE, Ohio) - Lake Erie women's soccer (0-8 G-MAC) suffered their third overtime loss on the season at the hands of Cedarville (5-2-1 G-MAC) on Saturday in Painesville. Despite the overall record the Storm has challenged every opponent and has come one goal short in seven games.
Cedarville controlled much of the possession in the first half outshooting Lake Erie 10-0 and six corner kicks compared to none by Lake Erie. Both teams went into the locker room tied at 0-0.
In the 57th minute, Lake Erie goalkeeper Megan Biddell made a great defensive effort to make a save on the Yellow Jacket attack but was given a red card for being outside of the box. Forward Haley Scherer and defender Skyler Crane both made their debut in relief for Biddell.
Despite playing out of position Crane kept the score close with five saves on six shot attempts from the Cedarville offense. At the end of regulation, neither team could find the back of the net.
The Yellow Jackets would break the deadlock three minutes into overtime on a golden goal by Aleah Martone that found the top right corner of the goal.
Even though the Storm did not walk away winners, prior to the start of the game Lake Erie women's soccer shared a final joyous moment with the seniors on the team. Leah Pollifrone, Emily Scheppner, Peyton Frankovich, Kristen Redwood, Marina Puhalj were all recognized and congratulated for their hard four years and dedication to the Storm program.
