Box Score (PEPPER PIKE, Ohio) — On a sunny and warm Tuesday afternoon, the Lake Erie College women's soccer team lost a tough one to Ursuline in overtime, 2-1. This moves the Storm's record to 0-5 on the abridged 2020-21 season.
The scoring began within two minutes of the start of the game, with Ursuline's Lidia Rodin connecting on a shot at the 1:50 mark, assisted by Megan Couthino. That gave the Arrows a 1-0 advantage early, but the Storm would give them a run for their money later in the first half, when junior forward Haley Scherer scored a goal in the 18th minute to even it up at one.
And that's where things would stand for a very long time, as neither side was able to get the ball into the back of the net for the rest of the first half, as well as all of the second half. The game progressed into overtime, and then double overtime. But then, in the 102nd minute, Ursuline forward Fallon Joyce would finally end things, scoring a goal to give the Arrows a 2-1 victory.
The Storm would end up taking 20 shots to Ursuline's 11, but the Arrows would have more saves than Lake Erie, 8-5. Additionally, Ursuline had double the amount of corner kicks that the Storm had, 8-4.
On the foul front, Lake Erie had 12 fouls in the game, while Ursuline only had 11. However, the Arrows would end up with three yellow cards, while the Storm only had two.
Next up on the schedule for women's soccer is a trip to Findlay on Thursday. That contest will start at 1:00 p.m. EST.
