Women's Soccer Drops Opener to Ohio Dominican, 1-0

Box Score

(PAINESVILLE, Ohio) — The Lake Erie College women's soccer team began its abridged 2020-21 season on Sunday, falling at home to Ohio Dominican, 1-0.

The game was a back-and-forth battle, with either side being presented with opportunities to put points on the board. However, good defensive play caused only one goal to be scored on either side for the entire game, which was by Ohio Dominican forward Samantha Buck in the 30th minute of the first period.

After that, Lake Erie had chances to tie things up, but was never quite able to get the ball into the back of the net. Taking half as many shots as Ohio Dominican and only having one corner kick in the entire game, compared to the Panthers' nine, showed that ODU simply had possession in Storm territory more often than Lake Erie did in theirs.

The Storm came out better than the Panthers in saves, with sophomore goalie Megan Biddell registering seven saves to Ohio Dominican's four. Lake Erie also won in the foul department, clocking in with only three to the Panthers' seven.

But a good effort by the Storm wasn't enough to top Ohio Dominican, and the Panthers left Painesville with the victory.

Now Lake Erie prepares for the first road game of the season, when they travel to Canton to take on Malone on Thursday. That game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
