Storm Fall to Walsh, 89-72

Box Score

On a snowy Tuesday night, the Lake Erie women's basketball team faced off against the visiting Walsh Cavaliers, losing by a score of 89-72. The match was the third in a three-game home stand for the Storm, who defeated Ursuline in double overtime on Saturday before losing to Trevecca Nazarene on Monday.

In this affair, the Cavaliers took the lead early and failed to relinquish it all game. Lake Erie was facing an uphill battle for most of the contest's 40 minutes, with opposing players like Walsh forward Mayci Sales posting 17 points before halftime. The Cavaliers simply got more shots to fall throughout the early going, as they shot 75 percent from three-point-range and over 83 percent from the charity stripe in the first half. The Storm fared well from beyond the arc during the first two quarters as well, getting over 71 percent of their attempts to fall. But a Lake Erie player wouldn't even make it to the line to shoot free throws until the third quarter.

That would come in the form of forwards Breanna Bauer and Shay Heath, the former of whom sank her only free throw attempt of the game in that third quarter to contribute to her team-high five points in that 10-minute stretch. The senior would finish with nine total points and four rebounds on the night; fellow starters Angela Fink and Lainey Billing would also grab four rebounds of their own. Billing led the Storm with 13 points, trailed closely behind by forward Abby Matalavage off the bench. On the other side, Walsh received 21 points from the previously mentioned Mayci Sales, along with nine rebounds. Guard Abby Hickey added 14 points off the bench for the Cavaliers.

The Storm only have three games remaining on their 2020-21 schedule, with the first of which slated to occur at Ohio Dominican on Saturday. That game will start at 1:00 p.m.
