Women's Basketball Loses to Trevecca, 77-63

Box Score

On a snowy Presidents Day in Painesville, the Lake Erie women's basketball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene, 77-63. The loss drops the Storm's record to 3-14 on the season, while the Trojans improve to 5-4 this year.

The game started off well enough for the Storm, with Lake Erie taking the lead 18-14 after a quarter of play. The offense was keeping up with Trevecca and setting the tone for the rest of the game. However, the Trojans answered in the second quarter, putting up 26 points to Lake Erie's 19 and taking a 40-37 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Trevecca began to really assert itself, especially in the fourth quarter. The Trojans scored 21 points in the fourth compared to the Storm's nine, and won the game, 77-63.

Trevecca guard Olivia Pepperman led both teams with 17 points scored. On the Lake Erie side, guards Lainey Billing and Sydney Wyngarden each had 15 points of their own. Billing picked up nine rebounds as well. Trevecca's Keeley Carter also had 15 points, along with seven assists, which led both teams.

As far as team totals go, Lake Erie held its own in several categories, including field goal percentage and three-point percentage, both of which were comparable to those of Trevecca. But where the Trojans set themselves apart were in three categories: Rebounds, which they led 50-39, Assists, which they led 11-6, and Bench Points, which they led 18-12. Those made a real difference in the game and made it harder for the Storm to make a comeback late.

Women's basketball continues their 2020-21 conference-only schedule on Tuesday when they return to the Jerome T. Osborne Center to take on the visiting Walsh Cavaliers. That affair is slated to tip off at 5:30.
