Box Score Lake Erie went on the road this weekend to face Ohio Dominican (6-3) as they wind down their 2021 season and compete in their final road matchup. The Storm, despite holding the Panthers to a 3-0 lead at the half, were unable to keep them at bay and fell in Columbus, 31-0. This loss sets the Storm's losing streak to Ohio Dominican at eleven, setting their all-time record against the Panther at 1-12. Lake Erie falls back to a .500 record this year at 5-5 (2-4 in G-MAC play) while the Panthers improve to 7-3 (4-2 in G-MAC play).
This matchup was highlighted by the tale of two different halves. Neither offense was able to find the end zone the entire first half, with each team only finding their way into the red zone once. Ohio Dominican captivated on their lone red-zone trip, successfully completing a 28-yard field goal for the game's first score. Lake Erie managed to make it deep into Panther territory late in the second quarter, but with a chance to tie it up at the 19-yard line, head coach Reilly Murphy took the gamble on 4th and 2 and was unable to make the conversion, resulting in the Storm turning the ball over with 1:13 left in the half.
This would be the closest the Storm would end up getting to scoring the remainder of the contest, as they found themselves only able to get into Ohio Dominican territory once in the second half.
On the day, Gerald Gardner would complete 22-39 pass attempts for the Storm, throwing for 181 yards and connecting with Peyton Brown nine times for a total of 51 yards.
On the ground, Devin Brown once again led the way, totaling 62 yards on 12 attempts while turning the ball over once.
On the defensive side of the ball, Phillip Hawkins and Trevon Pearson would each record a sack for the Storm while Pearson would add a forced fumble and pass breakup to his stat line on the day. Abdullaah Yaseen led the team with 5 total tackles and three pass breakups.
Lake Erie will come back home Saturday, November 13 at 6:00 pm for their final matchup of the season as they host the Walsh Cavaliers.
