Lake Erie comes back to beat Lewis, advance in NCAA tournament

Box Score

The Lake Erie College Storm took the field on Saturday in a second round contest in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at Mentor High School, and they would hold on for a 2-1 win.

The first half saw neither team take control of the game. Defender Ben Wiemann would keep the Storm in the game with strong defensive play in the first half, including one pivotal line clearing save after an errant Lewis shot slipped past goalkeeper Tomas Wroblewski. Despite the defensive effort from the Storm, Lewis took a 1-0 lead on a goal that was scored just before the halftime break.

However, the Storm would answer right back with a Teddy Baker goal in the 55th minute. Baker had first shot deflected by the Flyer keeper, but was able to convert on the rebound. With the newfound energy from the Baker goal, the Storm found their offensive footing. Senior Tom Pearson would then connect on a long crossing pass from Tomas Fernandez to give the Storm a 2-1 edge. Once they got the lead, freshman goalkeeper Tomas Wroblewski would have several key saves in order to maintain the Storm lead to the final whistle. Wroblewski would finish the night with 7 saves in total.

The Storm will now move on to face the winner of Fort Hays State and Wisconsin-Parkside. The dates and times for the next round of contests will be determined after Sunday's contests.
