Box Score (Painesville, Ohio) – The Lake Erie College Storm women's basketball team hosted Roberts Wesleyan College in their first home game of the season. The Storm defeated the Redhawks 67-52 to earn their first win of the season.
The first quarter was all Storm, as we outscored the Redhawks 20-9. Abby Matalavage led the Storm scoring 10 points in the first quarter, along with Lainey Billing adding 7 in the first 10 minutes. This was also a defensive first 10 minutes for the Storm as they produced 4 turnovers from the Red Hawks.
The second quarter had a lot of back and forth between the teams as the Red Hawks outscored the Storm 14-10. The Storm shared the ball more as multiple players added points, along with producing another three turnovers from the Redhawks.
The third quarter was the highest scoring of the game combined between the two teams, ultimately with the Storm coming out on top 18-16. Breanna Bauer produced six points, two rebounds and one steal in the third quarter. Kayla Clark added four points and one rebound of her own, along with multiple other players with two-points.
The final quarter was again, in the Storm's favor as they outscored the Redhawks 19-13. Lauren Flannery came up big in the fourth with seven points and three steals. Followed by another 4 points by Clark.
Overall, Matalavage led scoring with 14 points, followed by Billing and Clark who added 11 each. Bauer and Flannery each added nine, with eight added by Taylor Thomas. This was a great team win for the Storm to start their season off with.
Next Up
The Storm will travel to Erie, PA this Saturday to take on the Golden Knights of Gannon. Tip off is set for 1 PM. The Storm will not return to home action until December 2nd.
