Box Score The Lake Erie men's soccer team and head coach Louie Rolko hit the road for a tough matchup with the Walsh Cavaliers, and they came away with a big 1-0 win and the top spot in Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's soccer standings.
As to be expected with two very successful teams, the game was extremely tight for the entirety of the match. Both teams traded shots in the first half, and no one would find the back of the net before the halftime break.
After the break, it was more of the same for both teams. The deadlock looked to be headed for an overtime period, but the Storm were able to break the tie with a Fabian Kiessetz header off of an Inigo Jimenez Garcia corner kick in the 81st minute. That would prove to be all the edge the Storm would need, and they held on to bring home the 1-0 victory.
Outside of the Kiessetz goal, the Storm defensive front led by Ben Wiemann and goalkeeper Tom John were able to add their third clean sheet of the season.
Lake Erie returns to the pitch on October 9th at 1 pm for another road contest against the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. The Storm will look to avenge a 2-1 home overtime loss they suffered from the Panthers earlier this season.
