(Youngstown, Ohio) - The Lake Erie indoor men's and women's track and field teams competed in the YSU Mid-Major Invitational on Friday and Saturday. A few Storm athletes recorded new personal records in this two-day meet.
"Overall, the effort was solid at the Mid-Major Invitational...for many of the athletes involved this was their first competition in over a year. We continue to focus upon running, jumping, and throwing faster and farther at the conference championship in late February; but today there were several positives to build-upon" said head coach Giles Davis.
"Raena left YSU with another school record, this time in the women's 5000m run. She eclipsed the previous record held by Gina Henley of 19.42.15 by over 10-seconds with a top 12 finish of 19:32.76. Her training has gone well thus far, and under the guidance of coach Graham I'm confident she'll be a force at the conference and national level(s) in the next few weeks in the middle-distance events."
Davis added "Dominic is progressing nicely and extremely motivated to among the top hurdles in the conference. "
Highlights:
- Junior Dominic Jones dominated the field in the 60m hurdles taking first with his season-best of 8.46- just .02 off his personal best.
- Tareeq Welch took fourth in the men's 60m dash with a time of 7.34
- Men's 4x400 meter relay placed second with a time of 3:28.04
- Women's 4x400 meter relay placed third with a time of 4:10.52
- Freshman Mikia Hutchings placed eighth in the women's 200m dash with a time of 26.53
