Tough road loss as Dragons challenge Storm

(TIFFIN, Ohio) - Lake Erie women's basketball (0-7, 0-7 G-MAC) suffered a tough road defeat as the Storm fell, 40-53, to Tiffin (6-4, 6-4 G-MAC) on Thursday inside Gillmor Student Center in Tiffin, Ohio.

It was sophomore guard Sydney Wyngarden who led the team in scoring, as she finished with 16 points on 6 of 17 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds.  

Late in the second quarter, Wyngarden scored on back-to-back fast-break baskets and extended the Storm lead going into the half 24-18. In the first two quarters Lake Erie out rebound the Dragons 27-19, and came up with five steals

A three-point basket by Lauren Flannery pushed the Storm ahead by five with 7:24 to play in the third quarter. That lead would get erased as the Dragons went on a 6-0 scoring as the third period ended. Lake Erie would only go on to score eight points in the fourth quarter. 

Tiffin was led by sophomore guard Kirsten Williams, who finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. 

As a team, Lake Erie shot 25.5 percent (14-55) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from 3-point range, and 90.0 percent (9-of-10) from the free-throw line.

Next up, the Storm return to Painesville to take on first place Cedarville on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1:00 p.m. Due to covid-19 protocols, no spectators will be allowed at all home indoor events.
