Box Score On Saturday afternoon, the Lake Erie College women's basketball team fell to the visiting Malone Pioneers, 58-42. The loss drops the Storm's record to 0-6, while Malone improves to 3-7 in a season in which G-MAC teams only play other teams within the conference.
Coming off of a loss Thursday at home to Tiffin, the Storm returned to the Jerome T. Osborne Athetic Center Saturday and came out well against Malone, kept the score close early on. Only trailing by six heading into the second quarter, Lake Erie head coach Mackenzie Perttu had her women putting up a good effort on both ends of the court.
But as the game entered halftime, Malone had improved its lead to 12, a lead that it would ultimately hold onto for the rest of the affair. The Pioneers had three players with at least 13 points, including Alexis Hutchison (13), Madison Hunter (16), and Holly Groff (18). Nikki Weber had four assists and five steals and provided the Pioneers with scrappy play off the bench.
On the Lake Erie side of things, forward Breanna Bauer led the team in scoring with 10 points. Guard Angela Fink picked up nine points of her own, along with 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Sydney Wyndgarden picked up an additional seven points and eight rebounds.
Next up on the ledger for the Storm is a trip on Thursday to Tiffin to take on the Dragons, before heading home on Saturday to face off with Cedarville.
As a reminder, due to COVID-19 safety protocols, no fans will be allowed in any Lake Erie College basketball games this season.
