Box Score (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – Gabe Kynard scored 25 points, but it wasn't enough as Lake Erie fell to Ohio Dominican 75-65 in G-MAC action on Thursday evening. The loss drops the Storm to 13-10 overall as the Panthers improved to 10-12. Both are 7-6 in league play.
Both teams went back and forth during the first half and appeared that the Storm would take momentum into the locker room with an eight-point lead after a PJ Jones (So., Grove City, Ohio / Grove City) jumper, but right before the buzzer the Panthers answered with an old-fashioned 3-point play with a jumper and one.
Lake Erie held onto the lead for the first part of the second half, but ODU eventually rallied with an 18-4 run to take control of the game. The Panthers eventually pushed their lead out to as many as 11 and kept the Storm at least three possessions away the rest of the way.
In addition to Kynard (Sr., Toledo, Ohio / St. John's), Jacob Plantz (Fr., Genoa, Ohio / Genoa) joined him in double figures with 13 points and added six rebounds. Kevin Peterson (So., Cleveland, Ohio / Padua) was incredible on the class as he pulled down 11 rebounds, one shy of his previous best.
He was also one shy of game-high honors which went to Hasan Varence who recorded another double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He posed problems for the Storm shooters all night as he added five blocks.
The Storm will look to bounce back on Saturday as they head west to take on Tiffin. Tip-off with the Dragons is set for 3 p.m.
