(Indianapolis, Ind.) - The Storm indoor track team has completed its first day of competition at the 2020 Tom Hathaway Distance Challenge located on the campus of UIndy.
Lake Erie had five different athletes finish day one with top eight finishes. After placing second in last week's Dragon Open, Tareeq Welch continued to make improvements on Friday with another second-place finish in the long jump measuring 6.61m. Teammate Joneteris Johnson finished with a jump of 6.32m giving him a seventh-place finish.
In the women's weight throw event freshman Scarlet Chesbourgh and sophomore Morgan Smart had back to back rankings with a 10.53m eighth-place finish and a 10.04m finish respectively. On the men's side of the event Dominic DiFranco, Thomas Scheetz, and Dylan Conant each competed for the Storm but none were able to crack the top eight.
Dominic Jones had an impressive race in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.46, just missing a first-place finish by five seconds.
"Solid first day of competition for the team which included several top 8 finishes. I look forward to more improvements tomorrow in preparation for the forthcoming G-MAC Championship in late-February," Head Coach Giles Davis said.
Lake Erie will be back in action tomorrow beginning at 11 a.m. with the Storm competing in the men's shot put and finishing off the day with the 4x400 meter relay.
