Box Score (CEDARVILLE, Ohio) - Lake Erie dropped a tight contest to Cedarville a score of 77-69 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener Thursday at the Callan Athletic Center. Forty minutes weren't enough as the Storm (5-4, 0-1) were overcome in overtime by the Yellow Jackets (3-4, 0-1).
The Storm were up late in the game, but the hosts were able to make a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to tie it up 60-60. Cedarville was able to carry the momentum into the overtime period and never trailed during the extra session.
Gabe Kynard (Sr., Toledo, Ohio) led the way for the Green and White as he scored a game-high 25 points on 9-of-17 from the field. He was 3-of-6 from range and pulled down six rebounds as well. Kevin Peterson (So., Cleveland, Ohio) joined him in double-figures with 14 points.
The Yellow Jackets were paced by Quinton Green who scored 24 points and was 8-for-14 from the field. Conner TenHove and Kollin Van Horn added 16 and 11, respectively.
As score at the end of regulation indicated, it was a strongly defensive game with both teams shooting under 40 percent. The Storm outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-0 in points off turnovers, but Cedarville made up for it by controlling the rebound department 56-37.
Lake Erie will now prep for a Saturday showdown in North Canton against Walsh. Tip-off with the Cavaliers is set for 3 p.m.
