The Lake Erie College Storm was victorious tonight over the Battlers of Alderson Broaddus, with a final score of 70-66. With the win, the Storm improves to 5-9 overall, with 2 wins and losses respectively in the Great Midwest. The Battlers fell to 4-7 and 2-2 in the G-MAC with the loss.
The Battlers struck first in the contest, making good on a three-pointer just shy of the 9:20 mark, but the first Storm lead of the game came shortly after with the help of a pair of free throws by Breanna Bauer, and a layup by Josie Chaddock. That was the pattern of events for both teams tonight, as the matchup featured nine lead changes and five ties.
After coming out of the locker room with a one-point advantage after the half, the Storm allowed Alderson Broaddus an eight-point lead heading into the final quarter of play, but an overall team effort on the floor helped the Storm take back the lead and extend it to ten points, the largest Storm lead of the night, with 4:06 left to play in the game.
Four players hit double figures for the Storm tonight. Josie Chaddock recorded her twelfth game with double-figures and pushed the offense with 18 points. Breanna Bauer nearly recorded a double-double, with 16 points scored and nine boards. Freshman Lauren Flannery hit a couple of key shots in the fourth-quarter comeback and recorded 16 points as well. Finally, sophomore Lainey Billing came off the bench and added 10 points to the Storm offensive effort tonight, additionally recording seven rebounds, three blocked shots, and two steals.
The Storm will be on the road for the next four games, starting with two exhibition matchups against Youngstown State University and Cleveland State University later this week.
