(INDIANAPOLIS) – The season came to an end for Lake Erie with a 70-6 defeat at No. 16 Indianapolis at Key Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Storm end the year at 3-8, while the Greyhounds improved to 9-1 and will advance to the NCAA tournament.
The lone Lake Erie score came at the end of the third quarter as senior Javarian Smith (Pontiac, Michigan) hit freshman Nate Dantley Jr. (Tampa, Florida) on an 89-yard bomb. Dantley led the team with four receptions for 116 yards. Smith finished the game 13-for-34 with 209 yards.
Defensively Academic All-District selection Elems Ukwu Jr. (Gr., Landover, Maryland) boosted his stat total with 10 tackles, six of which were solo takedowns. It's the third time this season he's brought down 10 or more ball carriers.
Justin Growel (R-Jr., East Troy, Wisconsin) was near that mark as he finished the day with nine. He added half of a sack as he increased is conference-best tackles for loss total. He joined Zach Rodman (R-Jr., Highland Heights, Ohio) in bringing the UIndy signal caller down. He finished the year with a total of 21.5 totaling 84 yards lost, both program records.
