Storm Volleyball Battles, But Chargers Take the Win

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Lake Erie Storm hosted the Hillsdale College Chargers tonight at the Osborne Center for the first match of their last homestand of the 2019 regular season. Lake Erie came into the match with an overall record of 10-18 and 4-5 in the G-MAC, while the Hillsdale Chargers are the top-seeded G-MAC team with a record of 21-3 and 10-0 in the conference.

With the 3-1 victory, the Chargers remain perfect in the conference, and increase their record to 22-3 and 11-0, while the Storm falls to 10-19 and 4-6 in the conference. Set scores for the match were 20-25, 25-22 (W), 23-25, and the Chargers secured the win with a dominant 25-8 showing in the fourth set. The Storm battled tonight, gaining multiple leads over the Chargers throughout the match. But timely hitting and blocking allowed the Chargers to come back, while the Storm struggled with blocking and passing.

Sophomore Maria Blatnik led the Storm offense with 12 kills, while freshman Dora Olah added eight. Senior libero Morgan Briggs recorded 22 digs and was targeted once for a reception, and freshman Taylor Metzler added 20 digs of her own.

Tomorrow the Storm wraps up the regular season at home with a match against the University of Findlay. The team will also honor the four seniors, as the match will also be senior day, and start at 1 pm. General admission to the game will be $5.00, and children and Lake Erie College faculty, staff, and students receive free admission.
