Storm Falls in Double Overtime to Malone

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College women's soccer team hosted the Malone University Pioneers on Saturday (Sept. 30) evening at Jack Britt Memorial Stadium.

Malone defeated the Storm 4-3 in double overtime on Saturday.

Ashley Pryce (Stow, Ohio / Stow Munroe Falls) opened the scoring with her third goal of the season in the 14th minute. Brett Pauff (Elida, Ohio / Elida) put a ball in play where Pryce beat the keeper in a footrace and finished.

Lake Erie led 1-0 at halftime with a 7-5 shot advantage.

Malone scored two goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half, taking a 2-1 lead over the Storm. Carley Kandel (Jeromesville, Ohio / Northwestern) tied the game with a header off a free kick by Deanna Hill (Troy, Mich. / Avondale) in the 80th minute. Three minutes later, Malone regained a 3-2 lead with a goal on a free kick. With under three minutes left in regulation, Lake Erie's Holland Erb (Akron, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) tied the match with a goal from an assist by Hill.

After a scoreless first overtime, Malone won the game with under two minutes left in the second overtime.

Lake Erie won the shot battle 21-16 with six shots in the two overtime periods. Pauff led the Storm with four shots as ten different players took a shot.

Marissa Brannon (Concord, Ohio / Lake Catholic) made six saves in the game for the Storm.

The Storm will travel to Kentucky Wesleyan on Thursday (Oct. 5) for a road conference matchup.
