Volleyball Sweeps Panthers in Great Midwest Match

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Lake Erie College volleyball team rebounded from a loss on Friday (Sept. 22) night with a Great Midwest victory against the Ohio Dominican University Panthers on Saturday (Sept. 23) afternoon.

Lake Erie improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in G-MAC contests with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-21) sweep over Ohio Dominican.

Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) had two kills in the early going of the first set as the Storm took a 3-1 lead. Ohio Dominican came back and tied the set at six. Lake Erie used a 4-0 run that pushed the advantage to four at 10-6. After a Panthers timeout, Lake Erie exited the timeout with an 8-2 run that forced a second ODU timeout. The Storm led by as many as 11 before winning the set 25-14.

Lake Erie opened the second set with a two point lead but Ohio Dominican quickly tied the set at four. Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) had three kills and one block assist on a Lake Erie 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 12-4. The Storm led by as many as ten as they cruised to a 25-15 set two victory. Lombardo finished with five of her six kills in the second set.

Ohio Dominican was on the offensive in the third set as they started with a 9-3 lead. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) had four kills in an 8-2 Lake Erie run that tied the set at 11. Peiffer and Courtney Rosebrook (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) combined for a block and Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) had a service ace that gave the Storm a 13-11 lead. The Storm pushed the advantage to five after trailing by six early. The Panthers cut the lead to two late but the Storm completed the sweep with a Peiffer kill. Lake Erie won with a 25-21 set three win.

Peiffer led the Storm with 13 kills along with eight digs. Fisher had 12 kills for the Storm. Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio / Independence) and Thomas each had 16 assists. Thomas also added two aces and a match-high 12 digs. Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) finished with nine digs on defense.

Lake Erie will return to the court on Friday (Sept. 29) night at Walsh University.
