Penalty Kick Caps Storm Victory

PAINESVILLE, Ohio- The Lake Erie College men's soccer team picked up their first win in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) play on Thursday (Sept. 21) night.

The Storm earned a 2-1 victory over the Alderson Broaddus University Battlers on a late penalty kick.

Javier Borreguero (Nigran, Spain / Los Sauces School) put the Storm up 1-0 with his fifth goal of the season. Alderson Broaddus tied the game with a long goal in the 39th minute. The teams entered halftime tied at one goal each.

In the 63rd minute, Andrew Bucur (Bedford, Ohio / St. Peter Chanel) took advantage of a foul call and buried a penalty kick. The Storm led 2-1 and held on for the victory.

Lake Erie took four shots in the game with Borreguero taking three of them.

Tom John (Ahrensburg, Germany / Tennis Borussia Berlin) made eight saves against an attack heavy Battlers team.


The Storm will host Davis & Elkins on Saturday (Sept. 23) at 3:00 PM.
