Storm Reaches 20 Wins to Set Program Record

ELKINS, W.Va.- The Lake Erie College women's volleyball team set a new program record for wins in a single season since the Storm joined Division II on Friday (Oct. 27) night with a 3-1 (26-24, 25-15, 23-25, 25-16) victory over the David & Elkins College Senators.

The Storm improved to 20-7 overall and 10-3 in the Great Midwest. Lake Erie surpassed the previous record of 19 wins as a team in Division II, set last season.

Davis & Elkins opened the first set with a 3-1 lead before Lake Erie forced three ties in the early going. Following a 7-7 tie, Lake Eire opened a four point lead with a 6-2 run that was capped by a Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) kill. The Senators rallied back and tied the set at 17. Courtney Rosebrook (Deshler, Ohio / Patrick Henry) had back-to-back kills that forced the Senators to take a timeout, trailing 19-17. Davis & Elkins regained the 23-21 lead with a 6-3 rally. After a Lake Erie timeout, the Storm finished the set on a 5-1 run that won set one 26-24.

Lake Erie had momentum in the opening of the second set as Kedroske had two kills and a block assist. Rosebrook assisted on two blocks as Lake Erie scored five of the first six points. Davis & Elkins tied the set at seven. The Storm pushed the lead to four as the Senators took a timeout. Davis & Elkins pulled within three following the timeout but the Storm distanced themselves for a 25-15 set two victory.

The third set saw the Storm jump out to an 8-3 lead early. The Senators cut the lead down and tied the set three times. Lake Erie extended the lead to four on a service ace by Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline). The Senators took the lead late in the set with a late 10-4 run as Davis & Elkins won the set 25-23.

The Storm got four kills and a combined block as they used a 5-0 run out of the gates in set four. Following a Senators timeout, Lake Erie continued the pressure with an 8-3 run, that pushed the advantage to ten. The Senators chipped away at the lead, coming as close as four points but the Storm pulled away to complete the 3-1 win with a 25-16 set four win.

Kedroske led the Storm with a season-high 18 kills along with 14 digs on defense. Rosebrook also set a season-high with 14 kills. Rosebrook finished with a hitting percentage of .737 on 19 chances. Alexis Thomas (Cincinnati, Ohio / Fairfield) had a team-high 31 assists with 14 digs. Hallie Zumack (Independence, Ohio / Independence) assisted on 22 points for the Storm. Fletcher finished with 12 digs and Morgan Briggs (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac) added 11 digs.

The Storm will continue the road trip with a 1:00 PM contest on Saturday (Oct. 28) afternoon against the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots.
