Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – The Lake Erie College men's basketball team was in action today as they were victorious over Tiffin University, 92-80.
Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, Ohio / Westerville South) opened the scoring with a layup on the opening possession of the game. The Dragons fought back and took a 9-5 lead as they called a 30 second timeout with just under 17 minutes remaining in the half. After the timeout Sean Howard (Indianapolis, Ind. / Lawrence North) hit a three off of an assist by Gabe Kynard (Toledo, Ohio / St. John's) to make the score 9-7. The Storm continued their strong play and regained a 12-11 lead behind a three pointer from Erron James (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) with just over 13 minutes to play in the half. Lake Erie entered the second media timeout with an 18-15 advantage. Tiffin came out of the timeout on a 9-0 run and took a 24-18 lead which forced a 30 second Storm timeout. Lake Erie responded to tie the game behind Brogan Scott (Wadsworth, Ohio / Highland) as he scored four of the six points during the quick Storm run. The game remained tied at the final media timeout, 28-28. The game remained close and the Storm entered the intermission ahead, 42-40.
At the half the Storm was led by Howard as he had 13 points on 3-6 shooting from behind arc. Scott pitched in with 10 points and a team leading five rebounds.
Tiffin opened the scoring in the second half and regained the lead, the Dragons took a 55-53 lead into the first media timeout of the second half. The Storm went on a 7-0 run that saw the Storm regain a 62-59 lead, when Mitch Loomis (Malvern, Ohio / Malvern) capped the run with a layup. The Storm stretched their lead to seven with eight minutes remaining in the game behind a pair of three pointers from Ryan Middendorf (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota East). The Storm continued their strong play and held off every Tiffin surge, to take a 78-71 edge into the final media timeout of the game. Out of the break Howard hit a big three to give the Storm an 81-71 advantage. The Storm closed out the game and defeated the Dragons, 92-80.
Scott led the Storm with a double-double, with a career high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Howard added 20 points on 5-9 shooting from behind the arc. Off the bench, Middendorf tied a career high in points with 11.
Lake Erie will return to the hardwood Saturday (Jan. 14) when they travel to take on Walsh University.
