Box Score 2 NASHVILLE—The Lake Erie College baseball team split Sunday's (Feb. 29) doubleheader against Rockhurst University at a neutral site game in Nashville.
The Storm won game one 9-8 but fell in game two 13-2.
GAME ONE
Louie Peterlin (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) led the Storm offense, going four-of-four with a pair of RBI. Zak DeCamp (Gahanna, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) went two-of-three with a solo homerun and a triple. Rutger Luebke (Medina, Ohio/Medina) drove home the game winning RBI in the bottom of the sixth. He finished the day going three-of-four from the plate with a homerun and a pair of RBI.
Russell Lamovec (Willoughby Hills, Ohio/Willoughby South) got his first career win, pitching 2.1 innings of relief, striking out three. Michael Stryffeler (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) recorded his first save of the season with a three-up, three-down seventh inning.
DeCamp started things off for the Storm with a homerun in the bottom of the first. In the second, Ben Szymczak (Strongsville, Ohio/Strongsville) singled to right field, bringing home Kody Bledsoe (Elyria, Ohio/Amherst Steele) and Luebke.
In the bottom of the third, Lucas Raley (Hinckley, Ohio/Medina Highland) homered to left center, extending the Storm's lead to 4-0. Peterlin then brought DeCamp home. Luebke ended the Storm's scoring in the inning with a two-run homerun to left field.
The Hawks clawed back in the game, plating eight runs between the fourth and sixth innings.
However, Peterlin scored Ryan Grieco (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) with a single in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a DeCamp run on an error to close out the game.
GAME TWO
DeCamp went three-of-three with a RBI. He finished the day going five-of-six. Dalton Davis (Hartville, Ohio/Uniontown Lake) picked up his first career hit.
The Strom's scoring came in the bottom of the fifth when Szymczak scored on a DeCamp hit. Raley was then brought home on a Luebke sac fly later in the inning.
The Storm is back in action next weekend, traveling to the University of Indianapolis.
