Storm Sets Program High for Wins With Sweep

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Lake Erie College volleyball team bounced back from a five set on Friday with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-20) sweep of the Northern Michigan University Wildcats on Saturday (Oct. 22).

With the win, the Storm set a new program record with 14 wins in a season. Lake Erie is 14-12 overall and 5-5 in the GLIAC.

Lake Erie jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first set before the Wildcats called a timeout. Lake Erie extended the lead to as much as nine. The Wildcats closed the gap at times but could not regain the lead. Lake Erie took the first set 25-21.

The Storm opened a 7-2 lead in the second set, forcing the Wildcats to take a timeout. Lake Erie continued the pressure and closed out the second set 25-11.

Northern Michigan took a 7-2 lead in the third set but Lake Erie stormed back to tie the set 9-9. The Storm continued the pressure to keep the lead and finish off the sweep.

Lexi Lombardo (Olmsted Falls, Ohio / Olmsted Falls) led the Storm with nine kills, a .368 hitting percentage, two solo blocks and three block assists. Bethany Fisher (Orrville, Ohio / Orrville) had eight kills and two block assists. Crystal Kedroske (Dexter, Mich. / Dexter) and Sidney Fletcher (Saline, Mich. / Saline) each had ten digs. Brooke Peiffer (Lansing, Mich. / Holt) had eight digs and five kills in the match.

The Storm will return home for a four game home stand, starting on Friday (Oct. 28) with the Findlay Oilers.
